acquainted. The first 60 minutes is the concert itself, packed
 
with 10 great Bassey standards. She shows her diva status
 
stunningly with a great dramatic entrance to the strains of
 
"Goldfinger," the theme to the James Bond film, which along
 
with "Diamonds Are Forever" pays tribute to her Bond girl
 
days. From old favorite "'S Wonderful" to "Kiss Me Honey,
 
Honey" (in which she cha-chas with her mic) to a bawdy, and
 
just a bit naughty, "Big Spender" from Sweet Charity, Bassey
 
clearly delights her audience. She closes her concert with a
 
heartfelt "I Who Have Nothing" and a surprising cover of the
 
Foreigner hit "I Want to Know What Love Is." She exits the
 
stage and returns to a standing ovation having donned a
 
feathered and glittered duster over her beautiful evening
 
gown, thrilling her audience with three encore numbers, "This
 
Is My Life," "I Wish You Love," and "I Am What I Am."
Then, there is more! During the 1997 tour, the BBC caught
 
some wonderfully candid moments starting with a post-concert
 
party thrown by close friend Ivana Trump. (There is a surprise

Propellerheads, attends a dinner party near her home in

Art Or Bust Concert
Bette Midler is at her peak during this live recording. She sounds better than ever. Her version of, "Stay With Me," is perhaps the finest recorded. This was a quite unique concert. It's theme is in the title. It's quite artsy. The costumes were bold and sharp. The set designs were likewise. Stand-out moments include the aforementioned, "Stay With Me," "Don't Look Down," and the brilliant, "Here Comes the Flood." We are also treated to songs from her album release at the time. "My Eye On You," really rocks, and "Is it Love," is a very modern (at the time), kind of new-wave song. She went out on a limb for this show, and it really pays off. She's as raunchy and humorous as ever, giving us her standard Mermaids in wheelchairs act, Deloras Delago

This video catches Carly Simon doing what she does best: making her listeners happy while relating to the emotions contained in her super compositions. She rocks, she reggaes, she croons. The musicians playing behind her were evidently very familiar with these songs--great accompaniment. Carly quickly reminds the listener how good SHE is on guitar and keyboard too. She is on top of her singing game in this concert as well. Like, sweep me off my feet..... Last but way not least, whoever engineered the miking of the concert did a fabulous job. Stereo imaging and range were perfect--especially for a giant echo chamber like GCS. Carly's apparent happiness to be there is captured just right, and it's infectious! You will smile a lot, but you probably won't sit still!

Too bad it did not win the Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety or Music Program, but that year, there were 5 worthy nominees and since only one could win, the cards fell in another direction

1. Baryshnikov On Broadway 1980 - If you add Mikhail Baryshnikov's dancing to Liza Minelli's singing what do you get? In this case, a 'Best of Broadway musicals', sort of... I liked it, but then, I'm biased because I've been a Baryshnikov fan for as long as I can remember. In this show the biggest Broadway dance numbers get the ballet treatment, but Misha also shows he can handle the lighter stuff.
2. Sam Found Out Triple Play 1988 - Rather perplexing ABC-TV special featuring Liza Minnelli in three different impersonations, in stories all built around the plot conceit that "Sam...found...out!" The bit with Liza playing a hooker and Ryan O'Neal as her vicious pimp is terrific--very dramatic and gritty. But the romantic segment with Louis Gossett, Jr. and a pet pooch is painfully slack. Liza somehow managed to sneak this special into her tight schedule which had just included two theatrical movies, a TV-movie and a ton of concerts. It doesn't tap into her full-range, as it is supposed to, but at least it gave Liza-watchers something extra to feast on.

Frank, Liza & Sammy: The Ultimate Event 1989 Live In Japan - Frank, Liza & Sammy is a 90-minute show that combines great singing, entertaining choreography, dancing, humor and witty dialogue and features more than 30 memorable songs. Audiences are mesmerized by the experience of seeing talented performers paying tribute to these legends and performing "My Way," "Cabaret" and "Mr. Bojangles" with good old fashion warmth and sincerity.

The show opens with thrilling duets where Sammy and Liza execute intricate dance steps in "I Gotta A Lot of Living To Do" and Frank displays his usual charm with Liza in "The World On A String". The individual performances highlight each artist singing the songs made famous by the legends and the final part of the show features all three performers singing a medley of some of the most popular songs of our time.

The whole experience is enhanced by the camaraderie and interaction of these great performers together on stage. The witty dialogue adds a lot of humour to the show, especially when a reluctant Sammy, the only performer on stage not to have recorded the song "New York, New York", is convinced to sing it as the grand finale.

The friendship, love and respect that existed between these legends is captured throughout the show and makes Frank, Liza & Sammy a moment to remember!

What's New The Concert

Versatile Linda Ronstadt's in-concert performance with Nelson Riddle and orchestra--taped in Santa Barbara, California, in 1984. It features two American artists--Linda and Nelson--who were (and remain) mistress and master, respectively, of their crafts. The selection of featured standard songs--from "I've Got a Crush on You" to "Someone to Watch Over Me"--are interpreted with uncommon beauty and grace. Uptempo classics like "Daddy" and "Mr. Sandman" team Linda successfully with a zesty quartet of bopping singers. The concert offers both well-rehearsed musical glories and unstaged moments of spontaneous fun. During every song's performance, the camera picks out key musicians at just the right moments and cuts away frequently for delectable close-ups of Linda. The audio mix is superb, the live audience is receptive, and the show's entertainment value is high and inspired.
